The Hoxton, Lloyd | Oostelijke Handelskade 34, 1019 BN Amsterdam, Netherlands

Apply

Company Description

We’re looking for a passionate Sous Chef with a focus on Events to join our team at The Hoxton Lloyd, Amsterdam. Reporting to our Head Chef you will be responsible for delivering outstanding meals for corporate events, dinners and other occasions and you will be responsible to manage the day-to-day kitchen related activities for the restaurant. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring that every event we host is a culinary masterpiece, combining precision, creativity, and efficiency.

You inspire your team to create memorable experiences for guests of all our restaurants and bars. You hold yourself and others to a high level of professionalism and integrity, making key decisions based on what is best for the guest, the hotel, and the people who make it operate successfully day to day.

Breman Brasserie is an all-day restaurant that pays homage to the history of the iconic Lloyd building and features a menu of traditional European-meets-South American food. The bar serves classic cocktails with vibrant flavours and captivating New World wines.

More about us…

A city so good we had to double down! In 2023 we have opened our second Hoxton in Amsterdam, this time based in the Eastern Docklands where we are lovingly taking the reins of the historic former Lloyd Hotel. This beautiful property features 136 bedrooms, including the introduction of some new rooms categories for the Hox, a large ground floor restaurant and huge outdoor terrace, a new bar, and The Apartment – our unique meetings and events concept.

The Hoxton is a series of open-house hotels, each in a neighbourhood that we love. Ever since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, we’ve never just been about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that: proving style doesn’t need to be sacrificed for good value and providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighbourhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces.

What’s in it for you…

  • Become part of a team that’s very passionate about creating great hospitality experiences.
  • Competitive salary.
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays).
  • Food on us during your shift.
  • Enjoy a free night at The Hoxton and a meal for two when you first start with us.
  • Training to get you settled into your role with ongoing development that helps you think, make and thrive to set you up for success at work.
  • Time off to volunteer with one of our partner charities.
  • Hox Hero and Nifty fifty, our rewards for going the extra mile and living our values.
  • An annual diversity and inclusion calendar of events creating opportunities for you to learn, celebrate and make a positive impact.
  • Regular team get togethers, from our High Fives to our (pretty special!) team parties – we know how to have a good time!
  • The chance to challenge the norm and work in an environment that is both creative and rewarding.
  • Join an innovative, fast-growing, international group that is shaking things up on the hospitality scene.
  • Excellent discounts across The Hoxton and the global Ennismore family.

Job Description

What you’ll do…

  • Manage kitchen operations, including inventory, ordering, and cost control for events services.
  • Plan and oversee the preparation of a wide variety of dishes for events of varying sizes, ensuring timely delivery and presentation.
  • Coordinate with the Events and Sales teams to align the kitchen’s output with client requirements and event schedules.
  • Innovate and adapt menus to cater to diverse guest preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain a proactive presence during events, addressing any on-the-spot challenges and ensuring smooth service flow.
  • Create, execute, and produce top-notch food with a constant eye on the highest quality standards, presentation, and flavour, with an eye on industry trends and neighbourhood demands.
  • Ensure statutory compliance in all food and drink related areas.
  • You will keep well-organized storerooms and inventories that allow for a smooth-running kitchen.
  • Nurture and develop the talent of the kitchen team, creating an environment that brings out the best in them and where they can be themselves.
  • Make sure things are running without hitch, orders and deliveries are coming and going as needed, our service is smooth and our food hygiene standards are sky-high.
  • Work with our Head Chef on ideas and techniques that make our kitchen a creative, ever-changing environment where we’re always looking to come up with new, delicious combinations of tastes.

  • Passion for hospitality – whether that’s a drink, a meal, an event or a bed for the night.
  • You’re all about having a positive impact on the people you interact with, leaving them with a memorable experience.
  • You’re not precious. We leave our egos at the door and help get shit done.
