Job Description

Reports to: Front Office Manager/Rooms Manager

General Purpose: Under general supervision, provides porter and valet services to hotel guests and ensures their satisfaction and comfort by promptly and courteously responding to guest requests.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Greets and assists arriving guests with help unloading luggage from vehicle and transporting to their room, personally carrying the luggage or using a luggage cart. Valets offer to park guest's vehicle and give claim ticket.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all guests’ identities.
  • Ensures that luggage has been stored safely according to prescribed procedures.
  • Ensures that the luggage storage area is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Assists departing guests by transporting luggage from room to lobby, and helping the guest load luggage into vehicle. Valets retrieve vehicle and assist guest with departure.
  • Ensures the safety of guest’s property by double-checking each vehicle is locked after it is parked.
  • Responds to guest needs by promptly delivering laundry, packages, amenities.
  • Responds to inquiries and promotes the hotel's services by explaining products/services. Provides the guest with up-to-date hotel information in order to enhance customer relations.
  • Able to drive in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Able to back a vehicle into its parking spot evenly between vehicles without making contact with another vehicle or the parking stone.
  • Able to keep a record of all the incidents while driving, for example, any accidents or tickets
  • Able to handle cash proficiently.
  • Keeps abreast of local activities and the area's establishments in order to answer questions, recommend and give directions.
  • Maintains a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times not with just with guests and teammates, but also with passersby whose first impression of the hotel will be the people standing outside.
  • Cleans lobby areas and entrances and maintains free of debris in order to present a clean and attractive facility to guests.
  • Keeps sidewalk area in front of hotel clean and free of debris at all times, which may require using a broom, leaf blower, shovel, etc.
  • Assists other employees and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department and hotel.
  • Remains calm and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy check in, check out activity, serving as a role model for team and other employees. Interact with other department personnel and venue staff as needed.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Ensures compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.
  • Opens door for all guests and visitors entering and exiting the hotel.
  • Safely transport passengers to and from designated locations following predetermined routes and schedules.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guests, assisting with luggage and answering questions.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the shuttle is maintained by performing regular inspections.  Ensure that any issues are relayed and addressed.
  • Refuel as needed.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is returned to property, inspected and secured.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to drive vehicles.  The ability to drive a manual transmission is preferred, but not required.
  • Able to work flexible hours (nights, weekends).
  • Responsible, dependable, punctual.
  • Tactful, courteous, discreet.
  • Strong communication skills; must be able to speak and understand English.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Specific uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you as a part of the orientation process.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for all things 21c.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must provide a driving record of 3 points or less upon hire.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

 

Education/Formal Training:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience: 

  • Must have at least two years driving experience with a clean driving record.
  • Experience is preferred but not required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate two- and four-wheeled luggage carts, standard office equipment, broom, leaf blower, shovel.
  • Requires ability to lift large and heavy packages and boxes and to the ability to load and unload small and large boxes as needed. Must have ability to safely lift minimum of 70 lbs. without assistance and to push and pull up to 150 lbs. with appropriate equipment.
  • Must be able to twist, tow (push or pull), reach, bend climb and carry objects as necessary.
  • Capable of prolonged standing (up to 8 hours), walking, running and climbing stairs.
  • Intermittent exposure to outside elements, but primarily an indoor position.
