Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Commis 1 to join our culinary team at our restaurant in the beautiful island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam. As a Junior Chef, you will assist in the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes, contributing to our restaurant's reputation for excellence.

  • Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and seasoning
  • Support senior chefs in cooking and plating dishes according to restaurant standards
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Assist in menu planning and development, offering creative input when appropriate
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service operations
  • Participate in inventory management and stock rotation
  • Adapt to the fast-paced environment of a professional kitchen
  • Continuously learn and improve culinary skills under the guidance of senior chefs

Qualifications

  • Culinary diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Food safety certification
  • 1-2 years of kitchen experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency in basic culinary techniques and food preparation methods
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Physical stamina to work long hours in a standing position
  • Ability to work in a tropical climate
  • Knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of Vietnamese is a plus
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Passion for cooking and willingness to learn and grow in the culinary field
