Job Description

As Bar Manager and ambassador of the MAMA brand, while representing MAMA Shelter, you are expected to embody the MAMA spirit. Being genuine, kind, considerate, courteous, thoughtful, positive and respectful to ALL MAMA staff, guests, vendors, contractors and anyone on the MAMA Shelter premise is essential to performing the Bar Manager position satisfactory. This also includes being mindful of these characteristics while representing MAMA Shelter at any time. MAMA is a unique hotel, unlike any other, providing our guests with a personal human experience and staff with a fun, exciting, enjoyable place to work and your attitude is vital to MAMA’s success.

Objective: The Bar Manager is responsible for developing the bar program in collaboration with the Director of Food and Beverage/His or her Assistant, while giving the guest an exceptional experience.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for creating specialty cocktails, developing beverage recipes and making wine and beer selections for the bar program.
  2. Develops the preparation and presentation of beverages to meet/set standards.
  3. Assists the Director of Food and Beverage with hiring and retaining the bar staff.
  4. Trains bar staff on all beverage recipes and wine/beer knowledge.
  5. Actively assists in leading, coaching, and mentoring, developing and encouraging excellence from team members during daily operations by communicating company policies, standards and procedures.
  6. Assists with manager and employee performance evaluations and discipline communications.
  7. Creates and maintains positive guest relationships.
  8. Provides guests with an outstanding experience.
  9. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with suppliers ensuring the business receives competitive pricing.
  10. Adheres to all government guidelines for proper and safe food and beverage service.
  11. Promotes safety and compliance with all legal workplace standards and guidelines.
  12. Complies with workplace safety training program to ensure safety of staff.
  13. Participates in effective department meetings.
  14. Sets and monitor quality and service standards for staff.
  15. Monitors cleanliness and hygiene of bar area.
  16. Ensures adherence to cash management procedures
  17. Monitors and controls budget for the beverage unit/bar.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a high volume bar.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible work hours including evenings and weekends and holidays.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and wants of guests while balancing business needs of the Company.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks.
  • Passionate and creative.
  • Team player
