Job Description

Your Role in the Story 

The Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation, maintenance, and safety of all technical systems across LUURA operation for the specific shift, including guest facilities, staff accommodations, spa areas, and F&B outlets. This role supervises daily engineering operations during assigned shifts, coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensures all systems are compliant with safety and environmental standards. The Shift Engineer plays a critical role in creating a comfortable and safe environment for guests and employees while maintaining operational efficiency and sustainability. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee daily engineering operations during assigned shifts, ensuring all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool/spa, elevators, generators, lighting, etc.) are fully operational. 
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of technical equipment across the hotel, spa, kitchen, F&B outlets, and staff areas. 
  • Lead and supervise the engineering team, including junior engineers, technicians, and contractors, ensuring proper task delegation, coverage, and operational excellence. 
  • Coordinate and monitor repair and maintenance work, including external contractors, to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion. 
  • Respond promptly to technical emergencies or breakdowns, including electrical failures, water leaks, HVAC issues, or safety hazards, minimizing guest impact. 
  • Ensure compliance with local Greek safety regulations, EU directives, and environmental standards across all technical systems and hotel operations. 
  • Support pre-opening activities or seasonal hotel re-openings, ensuring all technical systems are fully functional. 
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment logs. 
  • Collaborate with other departments (F&B, Housekeeping, Front Office, Spa, HR) to ensure smooth operations, particularly during peak hours or special events. 
  • Analyze operational data to identify recurring issues or inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Monitor energy consumption, water usage, and sustainability measures, contributing to cost-effective and eco-friendly operations. 
  • Conduct safety audits, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions proactively. 
  • Prepare shift reports for the Engineering Manager or Cluster Technical Manager, highlighting operational performance, incidents, maintenance completed, and recommendations. 

Qualifications

Who We’re Looking For 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in hotel engineering, preferably with experience in resorts, spas, or large-scale properties. 
  • Proven knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool/spa systems, generators, and F&B technical operations. 
  • Experience managing engineering teams and coordinating external contractors. 
  • Experience in pre-openings will be considered as a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance programs, safety compliance, and technical audits. 
  • Familiarity with Greek laws, EU regulations, and local safety standards related to engineering operations in hotels. 
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies or high-demand situations. 
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus. 
  • Eligible to work in an EU country. 
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and responding to on-site emergencies.
