Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Engineering to join our team in the beautiful island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and innovation in our facilities.

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement comprehensive engineering strategies aligned with organisational goals and objectives
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
  • Manage capital projects, including new constructions, renovations, and major equipment installations
  • Establish and maintain a robust preventive maintenance programme to ensure optimal performance of all systems and equipment
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance guest experience through innovative engineering solutions
  • Ensure compliance with all local regulations, building codes, and safety standards
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, optimising resources whilst maintaining quality standards
  • Implement and oversee energy conservation initiatives to promote sustainability and reduce operational costs
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment
  • Liaise with external contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies as needed
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement in engineering practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; advanced degree or professional certifications are advantageous
  • Minimum of 15 years of work experience in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position
  • Proven experience in luxury hospitality or high-volume hotel/ resort operations, pre-opening experience is a must. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, including pre-opening and remote location projects
  • Strong understanding of building systems, preventive maintenance, and energy management
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management and cost control
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management
  • Proficiency in engineering management software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with Vietnamese building codes and regulations is desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to live and work in Phu Quoc, Vietnam
